To Kindle or Not to Kindle, that is the Question

Kindle 2 -the Amazing Electronic Book Reader from Amazon
I know, I know: boys do not cry; a “true” artist never uses a computer; “real” readers do not use gadgets to read books or for that matter listen to books, yaddi, yaddi, yadda. “Real readers” need to touch the paper, inhale the clean smell of paper of a new hardcover, love newspaper ink all over their hands on a Sunday morning, after all these are the things you live for. But trust me, the minute you are able to carry all of your favorite magazines, newspapers, blogs and up to 1,500 books in a single device, and that too in the size of a reader’s digest, you, too, will be a Kindle convert. Just look at the amazing little device it is:
* Just over 1/3 of an inch.
* Weighs only 10.2 ounces.
* Screen looks like a real page from a book.
* Read in sunlight with no glare.
* Sharp display with 16 shades of gray.
* Adjustable text size for comfortable reading.
* Use the keyboard to add annotations to text.
* Built-in Dictionary with “Instant Lookup”.
* Shop the Kindle Store for books right on the device.
* Access to over 250,000 books, newspapers, magazines and blogs.
* Get newspapers and magazines delivered to your Kindle before the print version.
* Text to speech feature lets it read to you.
* Free wireless access to Wikipedia.
* E-mail your word and PDF files to your kindle to read wherever you want.
Buttons: The original Kindle was a constant struggle with inadvertent page changes; the design was flawed from the beginning. The single best improvement in the Kindle 2 is the buttons are at the edge of the Kindle 2
Navigation is a huge improvement. Moving the cursor to a word and having the definition of the word immediately pop up on the bottom of the screen is great. Using the rocker to move between articles in a newspaper makes scanning the paper much faster and enjoyable. Calling up the Menu strip is much faster and interactive. Amazon, it seems, has been hard at work to make navigation quicker and easier because the hard work is apparent.
Size: The Kindle 2 is thinner than the iPhone. It feels denser and maybe a little bit heavier than the iPhone.
Network Speed: The Kindle 2 can use G3 cell phone connections. A novel can be delivered in about 60 seconds from anywhere when it’s activated. The speed makes a considerable difference in interactivity with the Kindle Store and when downloading “Archived” content.
You can go ahead spend your lazy afternoons perusing through books at Barnes & Noble and maybe buying them, but when you have to hit the road take KINDLE 2 with you. It will save you money and the hassle of lugging your laptop, cables, phone, iPod, and your books with you. After all taking your library with you for half the cost of buying all those books is reward in itself.
