Your Personal Deal Finder HERE

I am going to help the “rest of us” find the advice and the help to get the best deals available any where as per your requirements. Help me out with your suggestions as I help you in this endeavor.

FREE. It is one of the most powerful words in the dictionary of business people.

  • “Buy one, get one free”
  • “Free gift”
  • “Free Upgrade
  • “Free Estimate”
  • “Free Shipping and Handling”

After all that is how they attract the rest of us not so savvy people into their trap. But are the things really free -you may ask.  The word “free” is thrown around so much you do not even think twice about looking at the advertisement.

I am going to offer you this “Deal Finder Service” free of charge. Yes, believe it. In this world where every one charges a lot for their service I am going to offer YOU my Deal Finding Service free of charge.

Believe it or not I want to help. I get so many personal friends and extended family members call me, ask me, write to me asking for advice on electronics, computers, cars, movies, deals, you name it. So for my sanity I thought I’ll set up a website where you can send me your requests, and I’ll find the deals for you. I have been doing it for 20 years now, why not publish it so other people can benefit too.

Reverse Phone & Cell Phone Search

Here is the problem:

You have a phone number

  • but have no idea who it belongs to, maybe the rolodex or your phone diary got torn,
  • someone keeps making prank calls and you want to report the person but have no idea who it is,
  • that is someones cell number -maybe:) you have no idea whose it is,
  • that is really old and you want to get the latest number of your friend, or relative

Solution:

Do a reverse phone lookup, just type in the number in the box below and press search. Hey presto you’ll know for sure what had been bothering you for sometime. You will know who the number belongs to along with their address :)

Find out who the number belongs to by performing a REVERSE PHONE SEARCH right now

Upcoming WordCamps

Every now and then I see someone ask in the dev channel how they can meet up with other local WordPress developers. We’re thinking about ways to make WordPress.org more of a resource to facilitate local connections, but in the meantime, I thought it might be helpful to publicize some upcoming WordCamps, the weekend conferences organized by local communities to talk about all things WordPress.

WordCamp New Zealand: Wellington, New Zealand, August 8-9, 2009

WordCamp Huntsville: Huntsville, Alabama, USA, August 15–16, 2009

WordCamp Los Angeles: Los Angeles, California, USA, September 12, 2009

WordCamp Philippines: Makati City, Philippines, September 19, 2009

WordCamp Portland: Portland, Oregon, USA, September 19-20, 2009 (Last year’s PDX WordCamp was awesome, IMO.)

WordCamp Seattle: Seattle, Washington, USA, September 26, 2009

WordCamp Birmingham: Birmingham, Alabama, USA, September 26-27, 2009

WordCamp Netherlands: Utrecht, Netherlands, October 31, 2009

WordCamp NYC: New York, New York, USA, November 14-15, 2009 (Logo contest in progress!)

WordCamp Mexico: Mexico City, Mexico, November 20, 2009

If any of these are within a reasonable distance to you, consider attending. WordCamps are a great way to meet other WordPress users, find collaborators, and expand your t-shirt collection*. I know I’ll be hitting at least a few of these; WordCamps are also a great way to get user feedback to take into consideration while we’re making decisions about what to include in core.

You can always find an up-to-date list of upcoming WordCamps at WordCamp Central. You can also try searching for WordPress groups at Meetup.com to find more regular monthly gatherings in your area.

*Most WordCamps include an event t-shirt in the registration fee.

WordPress 2.8.3 Security Release

Unfortunately, I missed some places when fixing the privilege escalation issues for 2.8.1.  Luckily, the entire WordPress community has our backs.  Several folks in the community dug deeper and discovered areas that were overlooked.  With their help, the remaining issues are fixed in 2.8.3.  Since this is a security release, upgrading is highly recommended.  Download 2.8.3, or upgrade automatically from your admin.

WordPress 2.8.2

WordPress 2.8.2 fixes an XSS vulnerability. Comment author URLs were not fully sanitized when displayed in the admin. This could be exploited to redirect you away from the admin to another site.  Download 2.8.2 or automatically upgrade from the Tools->Upgrade page of your blog’s admin.

WordPress 2.8.1

WordPress 2.8.1 fixes many bugs and tightens security for plugin administration pages. Core Security Technologies notified us that admin pages added by certain plugins could be viewed by unprivileged users, resulting in information being leaked. Not all plugins are vulnerable to this problem, but we advise upgrading to 2.8.1 to be safe.

What else is new since 2.8?  Read through the highlights below, or  view all changes since 2.8

  • Certain themes were calling get_categories() in such a way that it would fail in 2.8. 2.8.1 works around this so these themes won’t have to change.
  • Dashboard memory usage is reduced.  Some people were running out of memory when loading the dashboard, resulting in an incomplete page.
  • The automatic upgrade no longer accidentally deletes files when cleaning up from a failed upgrade.
  • A problem where the rich text editor wasn’t being loaded due to compression issues has been worked around.
  • Extra security has been put in place to better protect you from plugins that do not do explicit permission checks.
  • Translation of role names fixed.
  • wp_page_menu() defaults to sorting by the user specified menu order rather than the page title.
  • Upload error messages are now correctly reported.
  • Autosave error experienced by some IE users is fixed.
  • Styling glitch in the plugin editor fixed.
  • SSH2 filesystem requirements updated.
  • Switched back to curl as the default transport.
  • Updated the translation library to avoid a problem with mbstring.func_overload.
  • Stricter inline style sanitization.
  • Stricter menu security.
  • Disabled code highlighting due to browser incompatibilities.
  • RTL layout fixes.

“SEARCH RULES” FOR EFFECTIVE SEARCHING ON THE INTERNET (Part-1)

A few concepts to keep in mind for your search to be more effective:

Google looks for WORDS, not meaning
When conducting a search, think about how a word would be used in context and in web pages.

Keywords are specific and unique
Do not use common, generic, search words, also known as keywords. Use definite, precise keywords. If you can select unusual words related to your topic or item, the more effective your search.

Alternate words forms: singular, plural, and alternate
To get the most extensive results that use your unique keywords, try using alternative form of the same word. An example: clothes OR clothing.

Using quotes to search for the exact term
An example: “Digital camera”, “point and shoot digital camera”, “slr digital camera”

Try these out when you next do any search on Google, it will help you find what you are looking for a lot more easier and hopefully make YOU a better deal finder.
